OFFLINE & DOWNLOADS

Keep PixelWall, projects, and Pro available offline

Offline use requires the editor’s files, your artwork, and any Pro ownership license to be available on the device. Keep separate backups of all three. The current downloads can run without the hosted application server.

Open the editor

Download the app and CLI

The standalone app ZIP contains a browser editor bundle, run-local.mjs, and a README. Extract it, read the included instructions, and run node run-local.mjs from that folder. Open the localhost URL printed by the local server. Node.js 22.13 or newer is required for the included launcher.

Use the local HTTP launcher instead of double-clicking index.html. Browser module loading, IndexedDB, and service-worker behavior depend on a supported origin. Keep using the same local address and port to reopen the same browser document library.

The CLI ZIP is a separate local-file command-line tool. It uses the same document engine and supports free individual-frame/native exports and licensed batch formats.

Install the browser app shell

A supported browser can install or cache the editor after it successfully loads the complete app shell. Open it once while connected, allow preparation to finish, and verify an offline reopen before depending on it. Installation prompts differ by browser.

A hosted shell can still be removed by browser or operating-system cleanup. The downloaded bundle is an independent copy; its local launcher does not need the PixelWall application server. Keep your project backups outside browser storage.

Bring Pro ownership with you

  1. Save the license after checkout

Choose Pro in the hosted editor, complete the $15 one-time purchase, and download your private ownership license.

  2. Restore in the offline app

Open Pro → Restore Pro and paste the complete PW2 code. A compatible build verifies it locally with no expiry.

  3. Convert an older recovery code

A valid PW1 code must reach the configured storefront once to obtain a signed PW2 ownership license. Keep the old code until conversion succeeds.

  4. Back up the app and artwork

The license restores export access only. Save your app ZIP, license file, and native .pixelwall documents separately.

Use the desktop app

Get the Mac, Windows, or Linux app from the Downloads page. It includes the same drawing and animation studio and works offline.

Version 0.3.2 adds in-app updates. Choose Check for Updates… from the PixelWall menu on Mac or Help on Windows and Linux, download the update, then choose Restart to update. PixelWall saves your artwork first; Later lets you keep editing. If you are using 0.3.1 or earlier, install the latest version once from the Downloads page to get this feature.

Your desktop projects stay on your device. To move artwork between the browser and desktop app, save and open .pixelwall project files, then restore Pro with your ownership license.

Storage and ownership limits

The browser library uses IndexedDB, incremental image records, and bounded recovery versions. The default library budget is 96 MiB with up to 40 recovery versions per document, retaining the latest required recovery versions. Browser quota may be lower. A save error requires attention and a downloaded backup before closing.

An active online refund or dispute check can update access on that device. A non-expiring license already held by a disconnected app cannot be instantly revoked remotely. Offline ownership does not promise indefinite operation of the hosted store.
